The Bubble pendant lamps, with their varied spherical shapes, add a touch of softness and diffused luminosity. Designed in 1952 by George Nelson, these elegant lamps rest on a sturdy, lightweight steel frame, yet form an airy, delicate whole. Nelson was inspired by a set of silk-covered Swedish pendant lamps he wished to acquire for his office. Unfortunately, the price seemed unaffordable. Nelson being as astute as he was resourceful, he set about creating the first set of Bubble lamps by spraying them with a translucent white resin, a technique developed at the time by the American army. Nelson drew his inspiration from a variety of simple, authentic forms to design these suspensions.
